Champagne Monsigny from Aldi

We drank some of this Champagne at a friend's house over Easter. My wife and I recognised this as very good champagne even though we had never really heard of it. Subsequent research on the web identified the Champagne as an Aldi "own brand" . This Champagne had won prizes at blind tastings.

I wouldn't say that this is the best Champagne I have  ever drunk and neither would my wife who was born in the region. However in is an exceptionally well blended Champagne from Philizot based in Reuil in the north of the Champagne region.

This Champagne is worthy of prizes especially as you can buy in for around £15 a bottle from Aldi supermarkets. Aldi must have some very talented wine buyers.

My wife and I are also worthy of a prize as we recognised that this was really good Champagne even though we had never heard of it. It is exceptional value for money, so it is certainly worth trying.
